Seamless Tooth Restoration at Its Best

A dental crown, often referred to as a “cap,” is utilized to cover and protect a tooth that has been fractured, undergone root canal therapy, discolored, decayed, or has an irregular shape. These meticulously crafted and precisely fitted dental crowns seamlessly integrate with the color and shape of your natural teeth, offering durability for over 15 years. In addition to their restorative function, crowns are occasionally employed to support a dental bridge, complete a dental implant, or achieve specific cosmetic enhancements for aesthetic purposes.

What’s The Process Of Getting A Crown?

A dental crown procedure typically involves two office visits and is administered by a dentist.

Here is an outline of the process:

Examining and preparing the tooth

Like any other dental procedure, it all begins with a dental examination. During this examination, the dentist will inspect and clean your teeth, ensuring they are ready for a seamless fit. If the tooth is fractured or significantly affected by decay, we will eliminate the damaged portions to enable the dental crown to fulfill its role in safeguarding the tooth from further deterioration.

Shaping the Crown

Subsequently, using dental putty, we will create an impression of your teeth, which will serve as the foundation for crafting complete porcelain crowns. During this phase, you will receive a temporary dental crown that will be securely placed on your teeth until your next appointment. In cases where a tooth is missing, and you opt for a dental implant, we will obtain an impression of the implant and the neighboring teeth. Our laboratory will utilize this impression to fabricate a personalized crown designed specifically for you.

Placing the Crown

During your second appointment, we will carefully remove the temporary crown and replace it with the permanent one. The crown will be affixed in place using sturdy dental cement or an inconspicuous screw, ensuring a secure fit. To finalize the procedure, we will meticulously polish the crown and make any essential adjustments to guarantee your comfort and security.

Cost Of Dental Crowns In Kitchener

The out-of-pocket expense for a dental crown can significantly differ among patients. With a standard insurance plan, the cost for a single crown typically ranges from approximately $200 to $600 or more. For those without insurance, a rough estimate for a crown falls in the range of about $800 to $1,200 and beyond. While many people consider a dental crown a worthwhile investment to restore both the appearance and function of their teeth, the cost may still warrant careful consideration.

So, what factors contribute to determining the cost of a dental crown?

  1. The type of crown and the chosen material.
  2. The location and complexity of the procedure.
  3. The number of crowns needed.
  4. Any combination of crowns with other dental appliances like bridges.
  5. Specific supplies and equipment essential for your individual treatment.

It’s essential to bear in mind that no dental practice can provide an accurate quote over the phone since your dental needs are as unique as your smile. To discover your treatment options and receive a precise cost estimate, it’s crucial to consult with a dentist and undergo a thorough oral examination. If you have dental insurance, we are more than happy to furnish you with a quote to submit to your insurer, allowing you to ascertain your out-of-pocket expenses before making a decision. Your dental health and satisfaction are our top priorities.

Frequently Asked Questions

The lifespan of a dental crown typically ranges from 5 to 15 years, but it can vary depending on several factors, including the type of crown material used, oral hygiene practices, and daily wear and tear. To maximize the lifespan of your dental crown, maintain good oral hygiene by brushing, flossing, and visiting your dentist for regular check-ups. Avoid using your teeth for activities like biting on hard objects or opening packages, as this can cause damage to the crown.

Dental crowns, unlike natural teeth, do not respond to traditional teeth whitening methods. If a crown becomes discolored or stained, the most effective solution is to replace it with a new one to restore its appearance.

It is possible to experience some mild discomfort or sensitivity after getting a dental crown, especially if the tooth’s nerve was involved during the preparation process. However, this discomfort is typically temporary and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers. If the discomfort persists or worsens, it’s essential to consult your dentist.

The need for a dental crown is determined by the extent of tooth damage or decay. Dental crowns are typically recommended when a tooth is significantly weakened, cracked, has undergone root canal therapy, or requires structural support. Other restorative options, such as fillings or veneers, may be suitable for less severe issues. Your dentist will assess your specific condition and recommend the most appropriate treatment.

Dental crowns can be made from various materials, including porcelain, ceramic, metal (such as gold or stainless steel), and a combination of materials. The choice of material depends on factors like the tooth’s location, your budget, and aesthetic preferences. Porcelain and ceramic crowns are popular choices for front teeth due to their natural appearance, while metal crowns are often used for molars because of their durability. Your dentist will help you select the right material based on your individual needs and preferences.

My oldest had her second visit today and did amazing! - Dr. Gobrial the first time and Dr. Solimon the second. Both experiences were great and here’s a picture for proof. Her little sister was there today for emotional support, she had fun taking a ride on the Chair, feeling like a rock star in the special sunglasses and picking a prize from the treasure bin. I wish I was as good of a patient as my little one was today as a kid. One proud Mama! Thank you Forest Glen dental.

My daughter had the first and an amazing experience with Forest Glen Dental. We went for an initial diagnosis and decided to do cleaning and filling right away based on x-ray. Dr. Sandra Ghobrial was terrific and he explained everything in detail nicely and patiently. He is great at handling kids and made my 7 year old daughter very comfortable for her first filling of a life. The entire staff was so welcoming. Definitely this would be our go to place for any future dental needs.
